- The Summer Concert Series at the Grange was well attended. Special thanks to Maine State Federal Credit Union for being a major sponsor as well as The Town Business Association for their donation.
- Soccer season came together under the leadership of Commissioners John Fortin and Jessica Murray. 103 children participated in the program. Special thanks to all of the coaches and volunteers that helped make the program successful.
- 2023-24 The Town Rec Youth Basketball Program has begun under the leadership of commissioner Kevin Phanor. 89 Children signed up to participate. The first game was on Dec. 2, 2023. The Town Volunteering
“America runs on Dunkin’ but The Town Rec Department RUNS ON YOU!”
Adult Volunteers are needed to make these programs run smoothly… The more helping hands there are the less gets left out, mixed up, and undone. When there is a communication breakdown, equipment left behind, umpire scheduling issues etc. it is usually because one or two individuals are trying to do the work of 10. The more volunteers we have to share the load the fewer number of breakdowns encountered during the season.
Volunteer opportunities include Snack Shack Manager, Snack Shack volunteers, Dugout Bookkeepers, Assistant Coaches, Coaches and Field Maintenance Support. The Town and Dirigo League require all volunteers to go through a free background check for our children’s safety. If you can and want to volunteer, please do not wait to be asked, STEP UP and offer your help. Don’t be shy or wait to be ask! WE WOULD LOVE YOUR HELP and IDEAS. Coaching may seem like the most difficult thing to volunteer for but most of our coaches begin with the T-Ball children and learn as they go gaining experience right along with the children. You do not have previous experience, only patience and understanding to be a GREAT COACH.)
Note to Parents and Spectators: The main goal of the Recreation Program in The Town is for the children to get involved, learn how to interact with their peers through sports, be challenged in a supportive way and overcome these challenges, feel a sense of accomplishment NO MATTER WHAT THE SCORE. This means they need your support as well.
Thank you to all of our Coaches and Volunteers who are working hard with our The Town children and maintaining the The Town Recreation Athletic Fields!

Please Note:
HOUSEHOLD TRASH DISPOSAL CHANGES HAVE OCCURRED AT THE TRANSFER STATION!
- Effective January 24, 2019, the zero-sort recycling program has been eliminated. From this point on, put all of your zero-sort recyclables (EXCEPT CARDBOARD) in with your regular household garbage. The Town’s new trash disposal vendor called Coastal Resources of Maine, powered by Fiberight Technology and located in Hampden, will sort all of the trash that the Town sends to them and they will recycle all that they can from your waste. Let Fiberight do the work for you!
Now for the CARDBOARD…Because there is a mandatory cardboard recycling Town ordinance in effect, residents need to continue to separate the cardboard as you have always done.
That’s it! That’s all the changes. The rest of the disposal options for other than household garbage remain the same as they have been.
The Solid Waste Transfer Station is located on the Lombard Dam Road for use by The Town Residents, and for disposal of trash generated within Town.
- Town Ordinance requires each resident to obtain a vehicle decal to affix to their vehicle to identify you as a The Town Resident.
- These decals are available at the Transfer Station by showing proof of residency.
