Recreation Committee & Volunteers Wanted! (7/21/23):
- The Town of The Town recreation program is growing and we are looking for your help! The Recreation Department is committed to giving The Town residents the opportunity to participate in recreation and athletic programs and encourage healthy lifestyles while keeping all participants safe. The town recently hired a Program Community Director to oversee programs that include fundraising, baseball, basketball, softball, soccer, snack shack, senior programs and events. Among other duties, as a commissioner you will meet with the Recreation Committee to prepare for these important programs. We are also planning to revisit the committee bylaws, so now is your chance to make a difference in your community programs! If you are interested in serving in one of these roles, please email Town Manager Aaron C. Miller a letter of interest at amiller@vassalboro.net, drop off at the Town Office at 682 Main Street or mail to PO Box 129 N. The Town ME 04962 or call 207-872-2826 for more information.
6/20/2023 Tickets to Funtown/Splashtown:
- The Recreation department is providing through the MRPA (Maine Recreation and Parks Association) discount tickets to Funtown/Splashtown ($45) and York Wild Animal Kingdom ($14)now available to purchase at the The Town Town Office and The Town Public Library. Cash or check only. No refunds and no holds.
Senior Cribbage
Looking for something to do?! Come for an afternoon of cribbage! Really, anyone who wants to play cribbage is welcome to join. Coffee and Snacks will be provided!

The Town Volunteering
“America runs on Dunkin’ but The Town Rec Department RUNS ON YOU!”
Adult Volunteers are needed to make these programs run smoothly… The more helping hands there are the less gets left out, mixed up, and undone. When there is a communication breakdown, equipment left behind, umpire scheduling issues etc. it is usually because one or two individuals are trying to do the work of 10. The more volunteers we have to share the load the fewer number of breakdowns encountered during the season.
Volunteer opportunities include Snack Shack Manager, Snack Shack volunteers, Dugout Bookkeepers, Assistant Coaches, Coaches and Field Maintenance Support. The Town and Dirigo League require all volunteers to go through a free background check for our children’s safety. If you can and want to volunteer, please do not wait to be asked, STEP UP and offer your help. Don’t be shy or wait to be ask! WE WOULD LOVE YOUR HELP and IDEAS. Coaching may seem like the most difficult thing to volunteer for but most of our coaches begin with the T-Ball children and learn as they go gaining experience right along with the children. You do not have previous experience, only patience and understanding to be a GREAT COACH.)
Note to Parents and Spectators: The main goal of the Recreation Program in The Town is for the children to get involved, learn how to interact with their peers through sports, be challenged in a supportive way and overcome these challenges, feel a sense of accomplishment NO MATTER WHAT THE SCORE. This means they need your support as well.
